Robert Gorlook

Biography

Canadian artist Robert Gorlook was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1958 and grew up in the north-east of the city. Robert has traveled extensively but has always kept his home in Manitoba.  Sculpture has become something that has developed later in his life after spending time with some Canadian aboriginal soapstone carvers. He has mentored with and is presently working with Inuit artist George Arluk. (alt sp George Arlook) They work together in Robert’s studio at his home in East St.Paul. MB. In May of 2007 Robert organized a 5 city tour of France with aboriginal soapstone artists and now has works exhibited in Paris, Annecy, and Montilimar France. His sculptures can also be found in galleries in Canada and the United States. His abstract work comes from a very personal area of his life while his figures are his own view and style. The owls in particular are an influence of a family friend and well-known Manitoba artist Norm Peterson.
